RED HAIR, DON'T CARE

An extra word

Volleyball and lifting are my two fitness passions in life :) There's nothing like the feeling of spiking the ball straight down to the floor or reaching a new PR on squats. I love to be a sarcastic smartass ;) I love being humorous with whatever I post because we can't always take ourselves too seriously now, can we? ;P URL Disclaimer: This blog isn't about being "slim." It's about becoming stronger and living a healthy lifestyle. But I', not changing my URL to reflect that because a. I'm not creative enough to think of another cool name and b. It's an Eminem reference ;p

    About Me

My name is Katie. This is me.

Reading through this blog, you’ll find that I’m quite silly, much like my pose in this goofy portrait. I love to laugh and I love to be ridiculous, so prepare yourself.

It is my life goal to become the ultimate bro.  You’ll find me in my basement lifting in my squat rack, flexing in every mirror I find myself looking into and taking flexing and/or silly selfies. I like to lift. I like protein. I am bro.

I also have red hair.  Hence the “ginger” in slimginger.  Don’t let my URL fool you - I’m much more in the mindset of accepting my body as is, having a healthy relationship with food, and enjoying my workouts because it’s something I like to do, not something that I feel obliged to.  When I made this blog, I was much in the mindset of cardio bunny, eat only what is right, yadda yadda. Over the past year, I have successfully transitioned to the bro lifestyle. I don’t change my URL, as often as it crosses my mind, because I’m too lazy and uncreative to think of another one AND it’s also an Eminem reference. So there ya have it.

Around the time of this blog’s inception (circa March 2012) I started reading blogs about “eating right” and hitting the treadmill. As time went on, I became more and more keen to the fact that the girls that I idolized weren’t exactly in the healthiest mindset.  Soon, I found myself drifting more and more towards blog of girls that lift, and I found myself inspired.  I saw how happy they were and how they were able to normalize their relationship with their body image and with food and with everything through the use of barbells and dumbbells.  And so I set out on a journey to discover just what it was that enabled them to do so.

I joined a gym in June 2012, and started with Jamie Eason’s LiveFit program.  I fell in love with lifting.  It was intimidating at first; the weight room is a scary place.  Overcoming that fear was definitely one of the things that made my confidence skyrocket - it wasn’t so scary after all and it left me feeling like I could accomplish anything so long as I put my mind to it. After the summer, volleyball season began and I had to take a break from lifting, but soon began again when my father decided to purchase a squat rack for our home gym (do I have the best dad or what?!) With the purchase, he began lifting and is completely happy with the results, and loves it much as I do.

I’m currently a senior in high school; still undecided as far as what college I’ll attend.  I’ll know soon enough.

I want to travel.  I want to enjoy the time I have with my friends. I want to live life to the fullest.

That’s about all I can think of for myself right now, but feel free to drop a message in my inbox if you ever want to chat or to just say hi :)
